Video supporting Goforth going viral; fundraising events held for deputy

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A YouTube tribute to slain Deputy Darren Goforth is circulating on social media.

The video was made by Kenny Nguyen, who had several run-ins with Goforth, but considered him a friend anyway.

"I was doing things I shouldn't have been doing and he was just the officer on duty at that moment," Nguyen said.

Nguyen said Goforth took his job seriously, but also had a sense of humor.

"Out of all people, he was such a good cop," Nguyen said. "That was the thing. He was such a good cop."

There was also support for Goforth in Waller on Sunday, where police tension has recently escalated.

"We thought it might be a good idea to try and let the law enforcement officers know that we are behind them 100 percent," Christine Cooper said.

In Houston's Third Ward, people came together to pray and collect donations for Goforth's family.

"It's important that we send a message that we don't hate all cops, that we love good police officers," community activist Quanell X said.

Nearly $300,000 has been raised for Goforth's family on a GoFundMe page.
