Video shows man slicing dog's mouth, neck in north Houston

HOUSTON – A Houston woman is pleading for the public's help in finding the man responsible for cutting her dog's mouth and neck.

Veronica Castro posted a video on Facebook on Oct. 8 showing a man reaching into her gate and slicing her dog repeatedly with a knife at her home in north Houston.

"My dog is thankfully alive, but cut up and I hope he will heal soon," Castro wrote.

Castro sent her dog, Chaz, to a veterinarian for surgery. The dog is recovering from the multiple stab wounds, but Castro is hoping the video will help catch the person who did it. Her post has been viewed more than 120,000 times and with more than 3,300 shares.

Castro said she filed a report with Houston police.

Police described the man as black or Hispanic with a receding hairline. He was wearing a white T-shirt with an image of the Mexican flag with the word 'Hardy' above it, dark-colored, knee-length shorts with drawstrings and Nike tennis shoes.

Anyone with information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Major Offenders Division Animal Cruelty Unit at 713-308-3100 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.

Hello FB friends and family. Please help us find this person who cut up my dog's mouth with a knife. We live in the Northside area, by Hardy St, between 610 and Cavalcade. My dog thankfully is alive but cut up, and I hope he will heal soon. If anybody has info please contact me or call HPD. This is cruelty, my dogs were in their own property and this waste of space hurt one of them. Thanks to you all .. please feel free to share! He seems to be wearing a shirt that has the words HARDY and a Mexican flag UPDATE 10/26/16 - Chaz had his sutures removed and is doing just fine. Thanks everyone for sharing and support. The suspect is still out there and Houston PETA is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the attackers arrest. www.chron.com/houston/article/PETA-offering-5-000-reward-for-info-on-man-seen-10415369.php
