Video of shots fired at school bus released

HOUSTON – Shots were fired at a Houston Independent School District bus, and it was caught on camera.

Crime Stoppers released the surveillance video of the March 27 incident on Thursday.

KPRC Local 2 has been fighting for the release of the video for weeks, but HISD had fought against making it public.

The shooting happened near the intersection of Bellaire near the Southwest Freeway about 4:40 p.m.

HISD spokesman Jason Spencer said two men on the side of the road got into an argument with the students who were on the bus.

The students attend Beechnut Academy.

The video shows students reacting when a gunshot blasted out the window.

Several shots were fired, investigators said.

Crime Stoppers officials said they wanted to release the video because they thought that it could help lead to an arrest.

One of the reasons HISD gave for not releasing the video was that the students' faces were visible. Blurring out video is common for television news stations. The video that was released already had the students' faces blurred.

Parents said they were upset that it took so long to release the video. They also said the school district didn't notify them about the shooting.

"I'm bothered by it, No. 1 because I didn't hear about it and then," mother Tiffany Victoria said. "To hear that they're not trying to release the video, for whatever reason, it makes it questionable to me."

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
