VIDEO: Dashcam catches wrong-way driver on Montgomery County road

PORTER, Texas – A dashcam recorded a driver Thursday heading the wrong direction on a Montgomery County road, nearly hitting an oncoming car.

The incident was reported near FM Road 1314 and Gene Campbell Road in Porter.

The video showed a red pickup veered into the oncoming lanes, and the driver who recorded the video and another driver swerved to miss the truck. The driver recording the video then turned his vehicle around and followed the pickup for what appeared to be a few miles, while the driver of the pickup continued to swerve into oncoming lanes and off the highway. The pickup driver eventually stopped at a red light, and the driver recording the video used his vehicle to block the truck from proceeding.

Another video showed deputies arriving to the scene and administering a field sobriety test to the driver of the pickup. The video also showed the pickup driver being taken into custody.

Deputies said they found packets of synthetic marijuana in the truck. They said a woman was also found asleep in the pickup.

The pickup driver was identified by deputies as Matthew Thrasher, 33. They said he was taken to a hospital to be treated for medical condition.

Deputies said Friday they expect to soon issue a warrant for Thrasher's arrest.
