Vandals burn northwest Harris County playground

HOUSTON – Deputies are looking for the vandals who burned a northwest Harris County playground and smashed windows on Friday.

Kim Tran's family heard glass shatter about 9:30 p.m. Friday at their Champions Pointe Village home and then found a bathroom window broken by a rock. There was no sign that anyone tried to get inside. They just smashed the window and ran.

Someone also threw something that shattered a van's window in a neighbor's driveway.

But investigators said the vandals did not wait for the sun to set before committing other crimes.

At 2 p.m. on Friday, someone set the subdivision's playground on fire. The fire was so hot, it cracked the windows on Tran's home next door and burned down part of her fence.

"It's basically not a park anymore to sit and relax or take your kids out to play," Tran Nguyen said.

Deputies have no suspects.

Anyone with information about the vandalism in Champions Pointe Village is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
