STAFFORD, Texas – A driver crashed through a fence and into a home in Stafford on Wednesday morning.
“She was asleep and all of a sudden she heard, 'Boom,'" said Jessie Garcia, the homeowner's uncle.
Garcia said a van crashed feet away from his niece as she slept on her bed inside the home along Promenade Boulevard and Boardwalk Parkway about 6 a.m.
“The driver of the vehicle ran off the road, we're not sure why, striking the house,” said Lt. James Leedom with the Stafford Police Department.
The crash caused significant damage to the house.
“When she stood up, all the debris came down," Garcia said. "She was so lucky that she wasn't on the other side.”
Garcia said his niece escaped with only minor injuries.
“She's alright, but she's got a few cuts on her arm," Garcia said. "I think [it is] because of the glass.”
Paramedics airlifted the driver of the van to a local hospital.
“Whoever it is missed that pole and jumped this curb and went in," said Farhad Mistri, a neighbor. "That's quite a bit of speed for a van like that.”
The driver's condition was not immediately released.
Stafford police said there was no sign of intoxication. They believe it was an accident and no charges could be filed. However, the investigation is not yet complete.
