U.S. Coast Guard rescues injured man amid mayday call from grounded sailboat on Mustang Island

CORPUS CHRISTI – The U.S. Coast Guard found and rescued an injured man Friday morning amid a mayday call from his grounded sailboat on Mustang Island.

The mayday call was reported at 4:38 a.m. about 5 miles south of Port Aransas.

Officials sent rescue officials to search for the man after they lost communication. Officials said he was able to be located after the man called his brother and Coast Guard by texting on his phone.

Officials said aircrew arrived minutes later found and rescued him. He was taken to Naval Air Station Corpus Christi. Officials said he suffered from injuries to his face, but in stable condition.
