Uptown Park unveils plans to expand

HOUSTON – Uptown Park is one of the most luxurious shopping destinations in the city and it's about to expand.

Uptown Park is 17 acres of low-rise commercial real estate, but soon it will be joining the Houston trend of building up.

This prime real estate in the Galleria area is right off the West Loop at Post Oak Boulevard.

Amreit, the Houston-based real estate trust that owns the site, has identified seven potential places on the property to build vertically.

First you'll start to see luxury residential then more office space, retail and parking. The proposed site of the first phase of the construction will begin where Baker, Pelucha Decor and Bella Rinova now sit.

"For me it's bittersweet. I love my location, love the people in the neighborhood so now it's a transition," said Deanna Gathe, who owns Pelucha Décor.

Pelucha has been in business in Uptown Park for less than a year. She said she knew this was a possibility.

"Redevelopment is always exciting and it's great for the community," said Gathe.

Kenn Stolte with Gittings Photography is all for growth.

"I love the changes. I think everything that's newer and better is fun and exciting," Gathe said.

Cathe said the changes won't affect his business. The entire project is expected to take between seven and 10 years.
