Upskirting investigated on school campus

Mother says school board reversed decision to expel boys

BAYTOWN, Texas – A Baytown mother and her family are seeking justice after a group of boys at Baytown Christian Academy were allegedly caught recording video under the skirts of female students.

The act is known as upskirting. The victim said it happened in the school cafeteria when the boys called her to their table. The girl said one of the boys had a phone taped to his foot with the record button on.

The three boys reportedly admitted to the upskirting and the school decided to expel them with the option to return next year.

However, according to the victim's family, the school board reversed that decision and allowed the boys to return if they apologized at a school assembly.

The school board told KPRC Local 2 that "the board is aware of it, and is dealing with it in an appropriate manner. There has been disciplinary action but we cannot comment on the case because it involves students."

"It seems like they're just trying to sweep it under the rug and that's wrong," said the girl's distraught mother, who doesn't want to be identified.

The family said the school offered to pay for counseling for their daughter. But the family said it wants the boys expelled or suspended. The family said they know that upskirting is a crime. If they go to police, the boys could be charged.

The victim's mother said they don't want to take that option.

"I'm all about forgiveness," said the mother. "But what about justice and what's right is right? It just feels like my daughter's insignificant and she's not."
