UPDATE: Man killed was not involved in street race

HARRIS COUNTY – Authorities said the man who died in a traffic accident in northwest Harris County was not involved in a street race.

It happened around 11:45 p.m. Wednesday in the 9000 block of W. Little York near Commerce Creek.

Officials said a man was driving a two-door Nissan eastbound on W. Little York when he lost control and slid sideways into a ditch. The car drove through a chain link fence and hit several poles before coming to stop in a bushy area.

Police said the male driver was tossed from the car. The victim was airlifted by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition, but he later died.

Authorities had originally believed that the vehicle and a motorcycle were involved in a street race when the car crashed, but after investigating said this was not a street racing accident.

This crash is being investigated by the Harris County Sheriff's Office Traffic Enforcement Division.
