University of Houston Downtown student shot during attempted carjacking

HOUSTON – A University of Houston Downtown student was shot Wednesday during an attempted carjacking, police said. 

Officials said the student was approaching his vehicle around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday and found a man inside the car. The man shot the student and fled the scene on foot, heading north on North Main Street, officials said.

The student was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital and is listed in stable condition, officials said. 

"Our thoughts are with the student at this time, and we will continue to monitor his progress," a spokesperson for UHD said. 

Police are looking for a black man, 20 to 25 years old, wearing a black shirt and dark pants, officials said.
