BAYTOWN - Baytown police are investigating a forgery case in which an uncle allegedly stole thousands of dollars from his 13-year-old niece.

The grandmother of the girl told police that she received a Social Security check each month in the amount of $1,229 from her deceased father's benefits.

When the grandmother went to buy shoes for the girl, she said her granddaughter's account had a negative balance.

The grandmother then went to the bank and she was told her son had been writing checks made out to himself in excess of $3,300.

Police said the woman confronted her son and he denied cashing the checks.

The suspect's name is being withheld at this time since the case is under investigation.
