HOUSTON – In just over two months, Major Applewhite will be leading the University of Houston Cougars onto the field in his first year as a head coach of the football team.
On Monday, he was the headliner at the 2017 Major Applewhite Golf Classic, an event for the program’s boosters who help raise money for the UH football program.
Applewhite is embracing his new role as the face of the program, although he says outside of coaching, his other duties as head coach took some getting used to.
“It’s not my nature. But at the same time as I’ve been told it’s not your nature, but it’s your title. You get these opportunities and you get back in your car and you realize the level of pride and commitment of the fan base. You just get a great sense of pride and it motivates you every day to make these people proud,” Applewhite said.
