UH gets new cub for cougar mascot

Shasta VI lives at Houston Zoo

HOUSTON – A cougar cub at the Houston Zoo has a very special job -- he's the University of Houston's mascot.

Shasta VI will make live appearances during University of Houston events via webcam. He will also guard the senior rings before the class ring ceremony.

Shasta VI moved into the Houston Zoo from the state of Washington in December

Zoo officials said Shasta VI and his two brothers became orphans when their mother was killed by a hunter.

Shasta VI lives safely in an exhibit with another cougar, Haley.
