HOUSTON - The University of Houston's No. 12-ranked baseball team topped Louisville 10-1 Sunday in Clearwater, Fla. to win the American Athletic Conference championship.
It is UH's first conference championship since 2008, when the school was in Conference USA.
Houston (44-15) had 16 hits compared to Louisville's 11. The Cougars led 4-1 before a 3-run sixth inning. Houston added another three runs in the ninth inning to secure the victory over the Cardinals (45-15).
The win earns the Cougars an automatic bid to the NCAA Regional. The site of the regionals will be announced at 8 p.m. Sunday.
