Police said Thomas and Banks got into an argument with the victim, Tonita Brooks, and then assaulted her in the 10000 block of Gessner Road on Monday.

Brooks' mother witnessed the attack and, armed with a hammer, went to help her daughter, police said.

The suspects managed to wrestle the hammer away from Brooks' mother, police said, and then started hitting Brooks with it.

Brooks was transported to the hospital in stable condition.

Thomas and Banks were arrested at the scene.
