HOUSTON -

Two robbery suspects are on the run after a run-in with a store clerk that left on of their partners in crime dead.

Houston police said it all started during a robbery at a washateria on North Shepherd at Rittenhouse Tuesday afternoon

Police are hoping surveillance video will help them locate the suspects.

Neighbors said the business owner fired shots at the suspects in the parking lot.

Harris County Sheriff's deputies spotted a car with blood on the side and chased it to a home at the corner of Bodart and Ella in northwest Harris County. Two suspects jumped out of the car and took off running. Inside the car, police found a third suspect who had been shot to death in the backseat.

Police believed the suspects randomly parked at the home and bailed out.

"The officer was arguing with one guy on the driver's side of the car and the other had just run off. I just picked up my phone and called 911," said neighbor Richard White. "The driver's side pushed the door away at which point the officer pulled his gun and ordered him to stop, but he didn't, and the officer did not fire at him."

Harris County Sheriff's deputies and Precinct 4 deputies blocked off the neighborhood Tuesday night.

A police dog searched a garage and cars in the area, but could not find the suspects.

Houston police said the investigation is ongoing.
