HOUSTON -

Rescue crews had to tear a car apart to get out a couple trapped inside after a major car wreck in Northwest Houston, according to HPD.

Police said the accident happened when a pickup truck going down Champion Forest hit a car driving on Cypresswood in the intersection.

The impact of the crash sent both vehicles careening into a set of trees.

Two people in the pickup truck were stuck inside of their mangled car.  According to reports, it took rescue crews 30 minutes to get them out.  A helicopter took them both to the hospital.

An ambulance took the driver of the car to the hospital in serious condition.

Police said one of the vehicles ran a red light, but they are investigating which driver is at fault.
