Two men arrested in attempted robbery

Police say the men tried to rob a southeast Houston Walgreens

HOUSTON – Two armed men were taken into custody after police said they held up a southeast Houston Walgreens early Saturday morning.

At 1 a.m. at the Walgreens in the 200 block of S. Wayside two men walked into the 24 hour store waving guns and wearing masks on their face, Houston police said. A manager was forced at gun point to the back room. Some customers told police they too were threatened.

"I've had to come down here in the middle of the night. You don't know what's going to happen," said Barbara Stinett.

According to investigators, units from both HPD and Harris County Precinct 6 were nearby and responded to the scene. Both suspects were arrested and taken into custody. Their names have not been released.

Residents who live in the area say they are grateful for the quick response but many say they don't venture out alone anymore.

"The bad thing you never know anymore crime is everywhere. Pay attention where you're going. Keep your surroundings unfortunately, it's our society," said Kenneth Melton.
