The SUV slid across the main lanes and then crashed into a concrete wall. The force of the impact flipped the vehicle into the left-hand lane of traffic.

Several witnesses arrived to render aid to the driver.

The driver of a Toyota Previa also on the South Loop then crashed into the SUV.

The 46-year-old driver of the Montero suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported in critical condition to Memorial Hermann Hospital. A female witness was struck by the Montero after the Previa hit it. That woman, 32, was hospitalized with non life-threatening injuries.

The Previa driver, 27-year-old Jose Eliseo Guevera-Palma, was taken into custody at the scene and is charged with intoxication assault.
