Witness told investigators that two men jumped out of a white SUV and tried to rob the two clerks as they were closing the store. A witness said it appeared the clerks refused to give the men money when one of them started shooting, even as the clerks drove away.

Investigators said the two clerks drove a black car with a bullet hole in the back window to a Shell gas station at 1950 North Sam Houston Pkwy, which is about five minutes from the scene of the shooting.

One of the men had a gunshot wound in the thigh, deputies said.

The other clerk was not injured.

The investigation is ongoing.
