Man surrenders after SWAT standoff in SW Houston

HOUSTON – The Houston Police Department SWAT team was called to a home in southwest Houston where police said a man, armed with a pistol, assaulted a family member.

According to police, the man closed himself and several family members, including teens, in a home in the 7700 block of Sign Street. Police said the man, who appeared to be on some type of narcotic, was threatening the family members with the gun.

Around 6:30 a.m., after nearly three hours, the man was arrested and everyone got out of the home safely, police said.

The man, whose name has not been released, is charged with aggravated assault of a family member.
