LIBERTY, Texas -

Two people have been arrested in connection with at least one case of vandalism of Comcast fiber optic cable lines.

Police said Bobby Nettles, 33, and Benjamin Alexander, 38, were taken into custody by the Liberty Police Department and charged with criminal mischief.

There have been at least two cases, with the first incident reported on Nov. 20. The latest incident occurred on Dec. 6 near Highway 90 at Texaco Road in Liberty and left thousands of area customers without television, Internet and phone services. The damage was estimated at approximately $12,000.

Every time the cables are cut, Comcast says it prevents customers from being able to call 911.

Liberty police investigators are working with Comcast and the Harris County Sheriff's Office on cases with similar circumstances.

Comcast is urging the public to contact local law enforcement if they see anyone working on these lines that is not clearly identifiable by a company vehicle, uniform or badge.
