Truck overturns, area of Eastex Freeway backed up

Trucks carrying lumber involved in separate accidents

HOUSTON – Two separate accidents involving trucks carrying lumber happened on Houston freeways within an hour of each other. And commuters, beware: One of the accidents is expected to cause traffic snarls during Wednesday's rush hour.

At 11 a.m., a truck carrying a load of lumber got stuck under an overpass on the Southwest Freeway northbound exit ramp to the West Loop northbound. An area of the freeway and ramp was shut down as engineers inspected the bridge for damage. No injuries were reported.

An accident at 12:45 p.m. on the Eastex Freeway southbound at I-10 had traffic snarled and a representative from the Texas Department of Transportation said it could cause problems during rush hour. An 18-wheeler overturned covering three main lanes of the freeway with lumber. The driver was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

TxDOT said that crews are picking up pieces of lumber by hand and moving them off of the road and onto the shoulder, which is creating lane closures and traffic back ups.
