Truck driver shot after confronting would-be burglar

HOUSTON – Police were searching for the man who shot a truck driver, after a failed car burglary attempt on Sunday morning.

Investigators said the wrecker driver was sitting inside his truck around 2:30 a.m. outside of his apartment building on Aldine Bender Road at Imperial Valley Drive.

A man then walked up to the wrecker truck and tried to break into the passenger door. Investigators said the would-be burglar likely didn't see the driver through the wrecker's tinted windows.

When the wrecker driver jumped out to confront the man, the burglar pulled out a gun and shot at the driver several times. One of those bullets hit the wrecker driver in the chest.

The victim was taken to Ben Taub Hospital in serious condition, but was expected to be okay.
