HOUSTON - A new tropical storm is churning in the Atlantic, but it's not moving much.

On Thursday afternoon, Tropical Storm Patty was at 25.8 north, 72.5 west, which is about 255 miles northeast of the Central Bahamas. It had maximum sustained winds of 40 mph and was moving stationary.

Patty is expected to slowly move southwest on Thursday evening and on Friday.
