HOUSTON – An estimated 1.5 million passengers will pass through Hobby and George Bush Intercontinental airports by the end of the year. If you're one of those people, there are some things you can do to make your trip go smoothly.
The security lines at Hobby were calm Monday morning, but they're expected to grow the closer we get to Thanksgiving. Giving yourself extra time to get through security is important, as is cutting down your wait time outside the airport.
Perry Miller with the Houston Airport System said, "We've improved our curb space to drop people off and pick people up, but in terms of parking, we still have a little bit of construction going on between the airports."
The Houston Airport System recommends getting to the airport at least two hours before your flight. For a more precise wait time, you can log onto fly2houston.com.
Bluetooth scanners inside the airports are monitoring how long it takes for passengers to get from the back of the line to the front. The wait time is updated online every 15 minutes.
"They can go to the website to can see how long it's taking and they can plan to figure out how much time it's going to take them to get through the checkpoint," Miller said.
After equipment issues on planes delayed several flights this fall, United Airlines mechanics are double checking planes to make sure the airline doesn't have problems this holiday flying season.
The Transportation Safety Administration said wrapped gifts are allowed, but not encouraged, because screeners may have to open them.
