HOUSTON - The North Loop westbound near the North Freeway re-opened late Monday afternoon after an 18-wheeler lost its load of metal Monday morning.
The accident happened at around 6 a.m. and lanes were open again around 3:45 p.m.
Sky 2 shot cars at a standstill as the 18-wheeler, which had flipped onto its side, sprawled across the lanes. Fuel from the truck also spilled onto the highway.
After that, drivers were inching along, moving between seven and 11 miles per hour.
TxDot does not expect the lanes to reopen until at least 3 p.m.
The North Loop's four lanes split up in three directions: 45 South, 610 West and 45 North. Signs are posted warning drivers about making a split-second decision. The three-way split exit is one of the deadliest areas on the road in Houston.
Fortunately, the big rig driver was not seriously injured.
