Toddler's death under investigation

Autopsy scheduled to determine cause of death

HOUSTON – Houston homicide detectives are investigating a 2-year-old's death.

Investigators said they were called out to an apartment complex in the 16800 block of City View Place about 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, after the child suffered cardiac arrest.

After treating the toddler, firefighters called police to the scene. Paramedics transported the child to the Northwest Medical Center, where the 2-year-old was pronounced dead, authorities said.

The child's mother is on the minds of neighbors, some of whom are also parents.

"I know how much pain she's in," say Eveyln Cloud, the mother of a one-year-old girl. "But I really don't. But I know she's suffering right now."

An autopsy will be performed on the child to determine the cause of death, police said.

There was at least one arrest at the complex, but police said it was for trespassing and was not related to the toddler's death.

Police have not released information about the child's identity, including gender.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
