Thieves who broke into several cars caught on camera

Men broke into about 4 cars, garages in early morning

SPRING, Texas – A group of thieves was caught on home surveillance video as they broke into several cars in a neighborhood off Cypressdale and Kuykendahl.

"I was really surprised when I first saw they checked my door," said John Ellett.

Ellett said he didn't even know he had been targeted by thieves because the group broke in when most residents were asleep.

"I had no idea until the next day when the police officers came by and noticed I had surveillance cameras," said Ellett.

It wasn't the surveillance cameras around Ellett's house that stopped him from becoming a victim. It was that his truck was locked and he left nothing inside to steal.

"If your vehicles are not locked, people just strolling by will go through your vehicles," said Ellett. "These are guys are so bold, they just go in through the garage."

The men hit about four cars and garages during one early morning spree. The men searched for unlocked cars, side gates and garage doors.

Ellett's surveillance cameras captured the thieves leaving the area with a duffel bag filled with stolen items. The entire spree lasted more than 30 minutes and the group captured on camera didn't seem concerned about being spotted.

"I thought that thieves wore black. I thought that they wore ski masks at night," said Ellett. "These guys are wearing bright colors and they're just walking around, standing like they own the property."

If you know anything about these crimes, you are asked to call Crime Stoppers at (713) 222-TIPS.
