Thieves use truck to break into shoe store

Truck believed to have been stolen

HOUSTON – Police are investigating a smash-and-grab at a southwest Houston shoe store that left a big mess.

Investigators said the thieves used a truck to crash through the front doors of the Active Athlete on the 11800 block of Wilcrest and the Southwest Freeway.

It's unclear what was taken in the burglary.

The store's owner said the entire incident was caught on camera. He said he thinks the the three men seen in the video were trying to steal Air Jordans, which sell for more than $150.

"They are just a popular product," said the store owner, who did not want to release his name. "Good resale value on the market."

Officers are hoping to find any clues in the pickup truck that was left behind by the thieves before they fled the scene. Police believe the pickup truck was stolen.

The store's owner said he had a lot of cleaning up to do.

"Painstaking to put a good store together and then this has to happen," he said. "But it's OK. We'll pick up the pieces from here and move on and try to protect it more."

The store owner said he plans to hire a full-time security guard to protect his business overnight.
