Thieves target woman picking up child at day care, police say

HOUSTON – One area mother is alerting all parents in the area after what happened to her when she picked her child up from day care.

She says she was targeted by a thief.

Thursday, after leaving a nearby mall, she went to a day care on Walters Road in northwest Harris County.

In the few minutes she was inside, a thief busted out her car window.

Her purse, which she left on the floor in the backseat, was stolen.

The thief got away with hundreds of dollars she was going to use for her childrens' Christmas gifts.

"It's supposed to be wonderful right now. It's Christmas, you know, in what, less than two weeks? And this happens. I don't know, like, I just feel like it's really getting bad," she said.

She said when she reported the crime to police, they told her criminals are known to target parents at day care sites because they often do leave valuables in the car.
