SUGAR LAND, Texas - The Sugar Land Police Department is investigating two separate home burglaries that happened Thursday in the First Colony neighborhood.
"Same street, two neighbors, this is scary," said Salma, one of the victims who didn't want to share her last name.
Salma's home in the 1300 block of Raintree Court was one of two that was hit by thieves sometime between 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. The burglars busted out a back bedroom window to get inside.
"They took my jewelry, my watches, my camera and stuff like that," she said.
She and her husband estimate they had about $7,000 worth of items stolen.
Salma said she wonders if maybe someone was watching her, waited for her to leave the house then broke in. She said she left to visit a friend and wasn't gone long, and the burglary happened during that time.
"We're very scared, my kids are very scared. We've lived in this neighborhood for the last 12 years and nothing ever happened like this," said Salma.
Her family does have an alarm system and it was set, but they don't have motion detectors or glass break detectors in the master bedroom. The alarm company wasn't notified because the thieves never left that area of the home.
Their neighbors house across the street was also broken into and the thieves also broke out a window to get inside.
It appears the break-ins were the work of the same individuals, but Sugar Land police said it's hard to tell. They are asking anyone with information to contact them at 281-275-2540.
