Thieves steal thousands in equipment from Channelview Little League

CHANNELVIEW, Texas – For the second time in two days, thieves broke into the locked sheds at the Little League ball field on Wood Drive and stole equipment worth thousands of dollars.

Helmets, bats, gloves and a very expensive tractor were taken. Without their equipment, it will be hard for the teams to play.

“We’re not gonna have any equipment as of right now,” said Hector Gonzalez, the president of the Channelview Little League.  “We’re gonna have to figure a way out to use what we have or find another sponsor to go purchase some.”

Harris County sheriff’s deputies collected some evidence at the scene and were able to pull some fingerprints off  a crow bar and hammer that had been left behind by the burglars.

“Our main priority is to get a lot of this stuff secured,” Gonzalez said.

Gonzales said they don’t have plans to cancel any games. They will have to use what little equipment they have left and borrow other pieces in order to be able to play the game safely.

“Oh the kids. When they found out, they were distraught,” Gonzalez said.
