Thieves steal multiple items from day care center

HOUSTON – Police are searching for the suspect or suspects who ransacked a daycare, then stole more than $300.

It happened sometime between Thursday night and Friday morning at St. Stephen Christian Academy on Little York Road in north Houston.

"You would think people would understand it's a day care center, it's for children," Director Lois Rose said.

She said the thieves got in by shattering the glass of a back window. She says when she arrived Friday morning, she found a TV, a desktop computer and the day care's brand new video surveillance system sitting on the floor.

"So I'm not sure what occurred, but they didn't take those things," Rose said.

But she says they did get away with $320, taken from the daycare's safe and a tuition box.
"We're just grateful no staff was here, no children, nobody was hurt," Rose said. "They did get the money, but that can be replaced."

Rose says the daycare will be activating its new video surveillance system as soon as possible in case of another break in. If you have any information call HPD.
