Thieves smash into beauty store, cause thousands of dollars of damage

HOUSTON – Glass and debris littered the front of a beauty store Saturday morning, after thieves smashed into the shop with a truck.

Surveillance cameras caught a driver backing a large, white pickup truck into the front doors of K Y Fashions.

The force of the impact broke the glass doors as well as the iron security gate.

Eight suspects then ran inside the store, grabbing hair extensions.

Around 2:30 a.m., officers were called out the store on W. Mt. Houston Road.

Woong Kang, the owner of K Y Fashions, estimated the damage could cost upward of $100,000.

"I don't know how much it's going to cost to fix this. I don't know how to fix this. This has never happened before," said Kang.

Officers believed the burglary could be connected to a similar crime that happened on Wednesday at a beauty store in Southwest Houston.

Kang said he heard about that robbery and tried to be cautious. Kang said he even had a warning that something might be wrong.

"The alarm company called me, and [there] was some activity going on," said Kang.

He checked the security cameras, and didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Still, he decided to play it safe and asked police to check on the store.

Just 30 minutes later, Kang said he glanced at the security camera footage and could only watch as the thieves broke into his store and caused thousands of dollars of damage in mere seconds.

Early Saturday morning, Kang and his employees spent hours cleaning up the mess left behind by the burglars.
