Dare to be scared at Creepy Hollow: Local haunted house voted best in Texas

ROSHARON, Texas – Trick-or-treat, or scream!  What is your pleasure?  For many, our nightmares come to us in horror movies, biting on our fingertips while trying not to choke on popcorn, nails dug deep into the person next to us and peeking out from beneath squinted eyes and a crack between our fingers while trying to cover our face with our sweaty hands.

But what if all that was stripped away and the "boogie man" was placed right in front of you?  Right around the corner, at the bottom of the stairs -- you just know for sure -- or waiting for you as you round the next bush or tree.  Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, nothing to do but SCREAM...and guess what, you asked for it!

Well a local spot has earned the bragging rights of giving you the best night of terror money can buy because Creepy Hollow in Rosharon has been voted one of the country's best haunted house attractions, according to the hauntedattractionassociation.com. Only two Texas places made the list.

There are three zones to keep you running and screaming  -- Scare Factory, Dark Woods and Pitch Black.

The 288 Scare Factory is the mobile viral genetic research facility gone awry. The facility was developed to experiment on the ample feral hog population in the area, but there has been an accident and a leaked virus could be the end of life as we know it.  Find out how it feels to be alive as you are trying to survive the walking dead.

Pitch Black is a holding facility where scientists started experimenting on humans, and strange and uncontrollable side affects started to appear with some of the subjects. They became insane, freakish and began to get aggressive. The scientists found they could control the state of the subjects depending on the light they were exposed to. Bright lights and glowing lights made them act completely insane. Complete darkness made them turn into killing machines. And you can be among them.  Can you handle it?

The Dark Woods is an area of dense forest where many years ago, a caretaker for the factory had the job of disposing of waste. The caretaker back then dumped the waste in the woods, which was home to many traveling vagrants. The contaminated waste made its way into the water and the soil and, slowly, the inhabitants of the Dark Woods began to change. Skin started peeling and blistering, and teeth and hair started falling out. Once the mutation took over their bodies, they began to hunger for the taste of human flesh. And guess who's looking like a tasty treat?  You are!

Creepy Hollow is a great place for a date night, a girlfriends or guy friends night out on the town or a place to take a few brave kiddos.  Even in all the ghouls and gruel, it is a family-friendly fun zone with concession stands and seating areas for those who are NOT brave enough to go through the attractions.

Not even the rain can stop the fun.  There are covered lines to keep the guests dry while waiting in line to enter.  Now, once inside if you wet yourself -- then I guess you got what you paid for!

The grounds are located at 12872 Valley Vista in Rosharon, Texas.

Hours of operation are 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday and Sunday, and for an extended amount of fun, it is open from 7 p.m. to midnight on Fridays and Saturday.

Happy Halloween and be safe out there!
