Thieves break into home in broad daylight

BELLAIRE, Texas – Thieves targeted a Bellaire home in broad daylight.

Bellaire police said a home in the 4500 block of Park Court was broken into on Friday.

"I was upstairs, folding laundry, so I didn't see anything. I realized later our back gate was open," said Lacie Player, who works as a nanny next door to the home that was burglarized.

Neighbors said the thieves kicked open in the back door and stole two large TVs, a Kindle and some money.

"They were very distraught," Player said.

Police said when it comes to burglaries in their community, they are dealing with two types of crooks. They said one type of crook breaks into a home and goes right for the electronics. The other type, they said, breaks into a home and go directly to the master bedroom in search of cash and jewelry.

At one point, Bellaire police officers were investigating two to three burglaries a day, but they said those numbers have tapered off for the time being.

"Our biggest strength with these are the neighbors, the homeowners. If they see any suspicious activity or vehicles that don't belong in their neighborhood, they shouldn't hesitate to call us," Assistant Police Chief Michael Leal said. "These crooks are using technology to their advantage. It's not uncommon for them to be on their Bluetooth talking to their accomplice while they are inside someone's home," Leal said.

No arrests have been made in the case.
