Thanksgiving travelers head home

HOUSTON – As the Thanksgiving weekend draws to a close, millions of travelers around the country are heading home.

Officials with AAA Texas estimated more than 3 million Texans hit the highways. All just in time for lower gas prices. The state average sits at around $3.16 per gallon.

Those who travel by air, however, paid more for a ticket this year than last year, officials said.

It's the peak travel season. At Bush Airport, more than 106,000 passengers will travel through the airport. For Hobby Airport, there are 344 flights.

Travelers returning home to Houston said they were pleased with their journey.

"It wasn't crowded like I was expecting and difficult to get checked bags. It was actually very easy," said traveler Melanie Revis.

"I was surprised how easy it was to get in and pick her up," said Dewayne Garrison, who was at the airport to pick up a loved one. "Going out was a different story."

The fair Houston weather was yet another upside to traveling home.
