HOUSTON – This is the time of year when Houston Independent District administrators plan for the next school year.
Part of that planning includes setting the calendar for the 2017-2018 school year.

HISD trustees Thursday night approved the new calendar that gives all students and staff a full week off for Thanksgiving.
That week would be Nov. 20-24.
The first day of school will be Aug. 28, with school ending June 1, 2018, for students and June 4 for teachers.
A public survey of these two calendar options was taken online during November last year.
Out of more than 75,000 survey responses, nearly 90 percent were in favor of the full week.
