HOUSTON – A Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo volunteer said she had her truck stolen out of a parking lot and now she has a warning for others.
"I just don't want it to happen to anyone else. I don't want anyone else to feel that false sense of security," said the woman, who asked to have her identity hidden.
She said she parked in a secured lot for volunteers, one with police officers and parking lot workers everywhere.
"They are so stringent about who can park in that lot." She said.
The woman, who had just gotten off work, said she locked all of her belongings inside her Ford F-150 and went in to the rodeo.
When she came out later, her truck was gone.
Police found it a a few miles away hours later. It had been stripped.
"They had lifted up all the seats and took all the floor mats," she said, "They took my computer, iPad, all my business files, purse, umbrella, tools."
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo staff told KPRC Local 2 they are taking the incident very seriously and are looking into it.
They also said they take every safety precaution possible and in the past ten years, the rodeo has only had two vehicles stolen from the volunteer lot.
"It really is a compromising position to be in," said the woman. "You're going there to volunteer, you feel like you're going to be safe and it wasn't."
The Houston Police Department is also investigating.
