Woman killed after crashing SUV on Southwest Freeway

HPD: Cause of crash is under investigation

HOUSTON – A woman is dead after she crashed her SUV into the side of the Southwest Freeway, Houston police said.

It was just after 3:30 a.m. Friday when police were called to the scene on the Southwest Freeway Feeder Road and Club Creek Drive.

Investigators said a 25-year-old woman was headed east on Club Creek Drive.

According to authorities, she ran through a stop sign at the Southwest Freeway feeder and hit the freeway support wall.  She died on impact.

Police said there were no skid marks or any other signs that the woman tried to stop before the crash. That could indicate she was unconscious or asleep at the time of the crash.

An autopsy will help determine if the woman was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

It took police about two hours to clear the scene.
