HOUSTON - Intruders shot a woman in southwest Houston after breaking into her house Thursday.
According to Houston police, the home invasion happened in the 5700 block of Vendi Drive around 12 a.m. Investigators said a 60-year-old woman was putting out her trash at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday when two males suddenly approached her and tried to force their way inside.
The woman managed to close the door and trigger her alarm, officers said, but one of the men pulled out a semi-automatic handgun and fired through the door, hitting the woman twice in the leg.
Emergency officials transported the woman to the hospital in stable condition. Her name was not released.
Police said both suspects ran away, and no arrests have been made.
Investigators said they do not know if anything was taken and why the house was targeted.
Neighbors are now concerned for their safety.
"We were all sleeping already and we just heard the gunshots. There were two. And that's when we all woke up. We were scared," resident Rocio Marmol said.
The suspects were between 15 and 25 years old. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
