HOUSTON – In the wake of the deadly shooting massacre in Colorado, the city of Houston has released a video to teach people how to react during a workplace shooting.
It is called "Run. Hide. Fight."
In the nearly five-and-a-half-minute graphic video, an ordinary day at the office takes a horrifying turn when a man in dark clothing and sunglasses decides to go on a deadly shooting spree.
The idea is to teach citizens what do do during an active shooting scene.
"We're not telling them what steps to take, exactly how to respond. We are giving them three suggestions on how they can act should they find themselves in that situation," said Rick Retz of the city of Houston.
The city of Houston Mayor's Office of Public Safety and Homeland Security produced the informational video. It was funded with $200,000 in federal grants. It was reportedly released early because of last month's shooting in Aurora, Colo., that left 12 dead and dozens of others injured.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of Aurora's tragic shooting, along with their friends, family and community," said Mayor Annise Parker. "I can't imagine the horror and grief. If it is at all possible for any good to come out of it, perhaps it can be letting people know the options to consider if it happens again."
