Verizon Wireless announces 950 layoffs in Houston

HOUSTON – Verizon Wireless announced plans to close a Houston call center. Closing the call center would slash nearly 950 Houston jobs.

The company announced in March that it would close three call centers in Houston, Seattle and Detroit.

Verizon said it planned on shutting down the Houston call center on Aug. 25.

A Verizon Wireless spokeswoman said the total number of Houston-based layoffs would likely change as some accepted other jobs within the company.
