Police said a woman driving a white F-150 pickup truck ran over the man.

According to officials, the man was about 40 feet away from his black pickup truck, which was parked in the far left U-turn lane.

The woman immediately called for help, authorities said.

Detectives said a Precinct 3 deputy was driving behind the woman and barely missed the man on the ground.

"The deputy almost ran over him as well, but the deputy did stop in time to avoid hitting him," said Lawrence Hernandez with the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

The man was taken by Life Flight helicopter in serious condition to Memorial Hermann Hospital. Investigators said they could smell alcohol on his breath.

The man's name was not released.
