UPDATE: North Freeway lanes reopen near downtown

Glass shreds at least one driver's tires

HOUSTON – The North Freeway southbound lanes of the Pierce Elevated near downtown have reopened.

Two mainlanes and one shoulder lane were closed near McKinney early Monday morning for about seven hours after a large piece of glass fell off a truck. The glass shattered, scattering shards all over the road.

At least one car drove through the glass and had its tires shredded, according to police.

Crews worked during the morning rush hour to clean up the mess. The lanes reopened around 9:30 a.m.

Commuters experienced significant traffic delays on the North, Katy and East freeways.
