United Airlines' Dreamliner arrives in Houston

HOUSTON – United Airlines has become the first U.S. airline to fly the 787 Boeing Dreamliner.

The massive jet arrived at George Bush Intercontinental Airport on Friday afternoon.

"It's absolutely the most sophisticated and technological airplane," said Capt. Dave Lundy of United Airlines.

United has ordered 50 of these planes. It will fly both domestic and international routes.

Travlers can expect a smoother ride, better lighting, larger windows and overhead bins and a quieter cabin.

"For the passengers, it's a whole new level of comfort. The mood lighting in the cabin is lower so you'll feel a lot more relaxed getting of this plane compared to the others," said Lundy.

The 787 can carry up to 219 passengers. There are 36 seats are in first class, 70 in economy plus and 113 in the traditional economy cabin.

"It's really Starship Enterprise, and we are really enthralled to have it on the property," Lundy said.

United will operate daily non-stop service from Houston to Amsterdam beginning in December. Beginning in January, the airline will operate non-stop 787 service five days a week between Houston and Lagos, Nigeria.

In February 2013, there will be Houston to London flights on a temporary basis.
