Two Houston restaurants named to list of best in the world

Conde Nast profiled 70 restaurants around the world, including London, Paris and New York

HOUSTON – Two Houston restaurants are among the world's best.

Conde Naste Traveler magazine say Underbelly on Westheimer near Montrose is one of the best new restaurants in the American South.

Lyle Bento, the restaurant's sous chef said, "What we do is we try and tell the story of Houston food."

Inside, the restaurant looks like a bar, it's casual relaxed and the food is seasonal.

"It's huge! It's not just a big deal for us, it's a big deal for the city! Us and Oxheart getting on this list, it's just going to bring more notoriety to the city," said Bento.

The other restaurant is Oxheart on Nance Street near the University of Houston in Downtown.

Justin Yu, the chef at Oxheart, said, "I'm surprised we made it on. We're just a small restaurant. Trying to take our food seriously."

This is a big deal when you consider the magazine profiled 70 restaurants around the world, including London, Paris and New York.

"It's a really, really big deal. I still can't believe it," Yu said.
