Two fires set at Houston tire shop

Arson suspect is a convicted sex offender

HOUSTON - A tire shop off of Old Spanish Trail was hit not once, but twice, by a firebug.

Because of surveillance cameras, arson investigators were able to put a face and name to the person now charged with setting those fires at the C&E Tire and Wheel Shop.

Local 2 Investigates has also learned Jacob Colby Garvin, 25, has a lengthy history of run-ins with police.

Investigators said fires were set at the tire business on April 27 and May 1.

Now, Garvin has been charged with arson.

Court documents read surveillance cameras from the business spotted Garvin setting the fire on May 1.

In fact, investigators wrote "after watching the aforementioned surveillance videotape they were positive that the person they interviewed was the same person seen on the tape starting the May 1st, 2012 fire."

According to court records, Garvin has a record of convictions of attempted sexual assault of a 16-year-old, failure to register as a sex offender, prostitution and marijuana possession, among other crimes.

Garvin has now been arrested and faces felony arson charges.
